The Monster Gala: (for children from the age of 4)
with Valentina Trovato & Thomas Wolff
A monsterwise good reading with loads of live music for children from the age of 4
In The Monster Gala the singer and actress Valentina Trovato and the children’s books author Thomas Wolff read, sing and perform the multiple-award-winning picture book Rosi in der Geisterbahn (Rosi in the Haunted House) by Philip Wächter and the children’s book Monstermäßig erzogen (Brought up by Monsters) by Marie Hübner and Thomas Wolff.
For weeks the little hare Rosi has been suffering from terrible nightmares, but now she has had enough of them. She absolutely has to do something about it. “A clear case of fear of monsters”, is the diagnose by a dream expert. Rosi wants to overcome her fear in the haunted house, but it is really creepy there. Will that go well?
In Monstermäßig erzogen (Brought up by Monsters) the parents of the little monster Knirps are worried sick: Their sum tidies up and says “thank you” and “please”. No doubt, a monsterlike education is on the schedule …  At the end, Trovato and Wolff compose a monster song together with the children – which will then, of course, be performed together.
Thomas Wolff’s real name is Michael Fuchs, and he is an author, publisher, musician and multi-talent. With “Elefantenwahrheit” (Elephant Truth) by Martin Baltscheit he published “one of the finest German children’s books (rating by the Stiftung Buchkunst [Book Art Trust]). In co-operation with Xavier Naidoo he recorded a new radio play version of the musical fairy-tale Peter and the Wolf.
Valentina Trovato is a singer in the band Pillow Fight Club, with which she has successfully toured Germany.

Ken Bruen: Jack Taylor geht zum Teufel (The Devil)
Those who did not make it to Ireland this summer should console themselves with the latest volume in Ken Bruen’s Jack Taylor series. In Galway the hard-drinking cynic and reluctant occasional investigator is looking for a disappeared student who had contacts with satanists. In the course of his investigations a peculiar stranger turns up, and when Jack finds black candles and a beheaded dog in his appartment and a fortune-teller makes dark prophesies, the question arises whether this time he is really chasing the devil himself …
Ken Bruen, born in 1951 and living in Galway, has received numerous awards, among others the Shamus Award twice, in 2009 the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière, and in 2010 the Deutscher Krimi Preis. “The Devil” is the latest volume in the popular Jack Taylor series of crime novels that is available in German. It is currently being turned into a movie which will probably be shown in spring 2013 on ZDF.
The reading will be presented by the author, singer and songwriter Mario Siegesmund; the Berlin film and stage actor Thomas Linke will read the German part. And in The Shamrock Jack Taylor would definitely fell as happy as a pig in muck! Cheers …

    Philippe Bootz: Rabot Poète
The installation Rabot Poète, in English „planing poet“, is part of the series „small uncomfortable poems“ and begins with a literary animation. Series of letters appear in regular intervals on a projection screen and leave the viewer, or rather the reader, a choice: If he or she remains inactive, the planing poet will soon switch off, without regard for the viewers. However, if the friends of poetry interact by going with the mouse over the projection and thus levelling, or planing, the jumble of letters, small texts and poems are formed at random. In this way an interdependence develops between work and reader: Only the activity of the reader makes it possible to read the work and is thus the constant fulfilment of the planing poet’s request for interactivity. So the work turns the reader into its slave, but even for this the rabot poète cannot show any respect …

Rabot Poète was developed by the French literary artist Philippe Bootz. Philippe Bootz is a researcher at the Université 8 in Paris in the area of digital lyrics and is the editor of the magazine Alire which deals with electronic poetry.

Alexandra Saemmer: Böhmische Dörfer (Bohemian Villages)
Rabot Poète is presented as part of the reading Bohemian Villages by Alexandra Saemmer, associate professor of information and communication sciences at the University Paris 8 and author of numerous scientific and journalistic, but also literary publications. Bohemian Villages is a „memory space“ made up of picture and text material that can be manipulated by the reader/viewer. This interactive and multimedia poem deals with the impossibility of keeping alive the memory of a traumatic historical event: the March of Death of the Sudeten Germans in the winter of 1945 which began in Brno. In her performance-reading the author will make the audience feel the impossibility of reconstructing a tragic family history, thus making it literally tangible.

    Bonmot – Literature from France
Marc Weitzmann: Mixed Marriage (Mariage Mixte)
Dominique Manotti & DOA: The Honorable Society
At Bonmot the friends of French literature will, on the occasion of the 50thanniversary of the Élysée Treaty, get their money’s worth. To begin with, the author and journalist Marc Weitzmann from Paris will present his novel Mariage Mixte (Mixed Marriage), which started a heated debate upon its publication in France. In it Weitzmann takes up an authentic case: In Nice the 9-year-old son of the Cottards disappears. Even though the body of the child has never been found, the father is taken to court. Weitzmann turns the scandalous report of a true crime into literature, he approaches the characters as far as even their innermost and confronts his narrator relentlessly with his family history and his Jewish identity.

Following this, the two authors Dominique Manotti and the mysterious DOA should have taken their seats on the literature settee in the Lÿz. “It’s a good thing that some books are written by two authors”, the organisers of vielSeitig thought when they received the message that Dominique Manotti had to cancel his visit due to illness (once again from here: Get well soon!). Now the mysterious DOA, who wishes to remain anonymous, will have to provide for the literary thrill at Bonmot all by himself. He will talk about their joint thriller L’Honorable Societé (The Honorable Society): A group of young eco-activists is planning a spectacular coup against the French nuclear policy just before the presidential elections, which will unhinge the power network of politics and the elites of French industry. In a captivating and straightforward manner Manotti and DOA describe corruption and machinations of the ruling class. A dark affair, fictitious but yet so close to reality that it makes you shudder.

The evening will be presented by the journalist and author Tanja Kuchenbecker who has been living in Paris for over 15 years and writes for, among others, the Tagesspiegel and Focus. Her humorous personal account Le Fettnapf. Wie ich lernte, mich in Frankreich nicht zum Horst zu machen was a resounding success with the audience. The German part will be read by the actor Armin Nufer who, besides his TV appearances in Tatort and Ein Fall für zwei, has had guest appearances at the theatres in Frankfurt, Mainz and Düsseldorf.

    Language: French, German | Tickets: advance booking: 10.- €, box office 12.- €, reduced 8.- €
